The “Metabolism Check.” Control Your Weight, Energy & Mood.

Are you eating less but gaining weight?

Or perhaps you feel anxious, shaky, and are losing weight without trying? Do you feel tired even after resting, or is your hair thinning out?

Your Thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland in your neck, but it acts as the “Master Engine” of your body.1 It controls how fast your heart beats, how quickly you burn calories, and even how you regulate body temperature.

The Thyroid Profile (T3, T4, TSH) is the foundational screening test used worldwide to detect thyroid disorders. It checks the communication between your brain and your thyroid gland to ensure your metabolism is balanced.

What This Profile Covers & Why It Matters

This profile measures the three essential markers of thyroid health: The “Boss” and the “Workers.”1. The “Manager” (TSH – Thyroid Stimulating Hormone)

    • What it is: TSH is produced by your brain (pituitary gland), not the thyroid itself. It is the “Manager” shouting orders at the thyroid.2

    • The Advantage:

      • Most Sensitive Marker: TSH is usually the first number to go wrong.

      • High TSH: Means your thyroid is “sleeping” (Hypothyroidism), so the brain is screaming (producing more TSH) to wake it up. This leads to weight gain and lethargy.3

      • Low TSH: Means your thyroid is “overacting” (Hyperthyroidism), so the brain stops sending signals. This leads to anxiety and weight loss.

2. The “Workers” (Total T3 & Total T4)

  • Tests: Triiodothyronine (T3) & Thyroxine (T4).4

  • The Advantage:

    • T4 (The Storage Hormone): This is the raw material your thyroid produces. It circulates in the blood waiting to be used.

    • T3 (The Active Hormone): This is the “fuel” that actually enters your cells to give you energy.

    • Why Both? Measuring both helps us understand production vs. conversion. Sometimes your body makes enough T4 but fails to convert it into active T3, leading to fatigue despite “normal” production.

Who Should Book This Test?

  • Women over 30: Thyroid issues are 5 to 8 times more common in women than men.

  • Unexplained Weight Changes: Sudden gain or loss that doesn’t match your diet.

  • Hair & Skin Issues: Excessive hair fall, dry/brittle hair, or very dry skin.5

  • Mood Changes: Feeling unusually depressed, sluggish, or anxious/jittery.6

  • Menstrual Issues: Irregular periods or heavy bleeding.7

  • Family History: If anyone in your family takes thyroid medication (Thyronorm/Eltroxin).

Patient Preparation

  • Sample: Blood (Serum).

  • Fasting: Preferred but not mandatory. A 2-4 hour fast helps avoid cloudiness in the sample (lipemia), ensuring a clearer reading.

  • Time of Day: Morning sample (before 10:00 AM) is recommended as TSH levels fluctuate slightly throughout the day (Circadian Rhythm).8

  • Medication Rule:

    • If you already take Thyroid medication, DO NOT take your pill before the blood draw. Give the sample first, then take your tablet.

    • Stop Biotin: If you take supplements for hair growth (Biotin), stop them 3 days before the test, as Biotin can cause falsely normal results in thyroid tests.

Why Choose the Thyroid Profile?

This is the “First Line of Defense.” It is affordable, quick, and gives a clear “Yes/No” answer regarding thyroid dysfunction. If you feel “off” but can’t pinpoint why, this is often the missing puzzle piece.
